Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT)

Today OTH stopped by the Rotary Craft Show in Wilton Center and saw a booth for the NRVT. He has been curious about this project for a while and took this opportunity to learn more about it. He had the good fortunate to meet Lisa Bogan who is the Community Liaison for Wilton (OTH’s home town). Lisa was gracious enough to spend a considerable time with OTH, describing the project and the organization. Rather than invent his own description, here’s the mission statement from the literature OTH picked up:

The mission of the NRVT Steering Committee is to facilitate the design, development, construction and maintenance of a regionally significant, safe, multipurpose trail linking Norwalk, Wilton, Redding, Ridgefield, and Danbury.  Ultimately the trail will reflect the needs and desires of these communities and will foster increased passive recreational opportunities, alternative transportation options, and a healthy lifestyle.

Ambitious, for sure, but once upon a time the Appalachian Trail was but a dream and today it stretches from Georgia to Maine over 2100 miles in length, traveled to some degree by 2-3 million walkers yearly. So, 27 miles here in Connecticut doesn’t seem impossible.

OTH will return to NRVT more in the future, but for now this looks like a project that deserves the support of anyone in Southwest CT that enjoys walking in our local communities, especially seniors.
